12.9.2011

12.9.2011
What an unexpected glorious day in my life. It started out as any normal Friday at work. You see, I am one of the few people in this world that can say I love my job. I am doing what I was put on this earth to do. It was one of things that kind of picked me. I didn't really have a choice in the matter. I am an assistant in a self contained class. I was blessed with the best mentor possible in that entire school. I look up to her in more ways than just being a teacher. She is AWESOME. She has definitely found her niche in life. I am just thankful I was selected to be in her class to learn from her. Ok back to 12.9.2011. It was just a normal Friday at work and earlier that week, I was talking about being done with college. (FINALLY!) And how strange it was to actually be finished. Mrs. R and I were hanging chain art and chatting with Ms. J. just about life and celebrating Friday (which we do every Friday in C-13.) and at the same time our LSC and the intercom came on. It was Mrs. Lee from the front office, she was calling me to Mr. U's office. As I was walking out Mrs. R joked, he wants you to sign that teacher contract...of course I brushed it off.. First of all let me say this. I do not care how old you are when you get called to the principal's office it's an uneasy feeling. I had been getting in trouble for clocking in early, yes, clocking in EARLY! So I figured that is what he wanted to talk to me about, even though he is very punctual county office isn't happy about overtime. I was practicing my speech on why I am early as I walk into the office and what do you know? His door is shut, UGH! Now I have to wait...after waiting for what seems like forever Mrs. Edna walks in and says.."We are ready for you Scotti." Mrs Edna handles all the money so what in the world would she need me for?? She walked me into Mr. U's office and shut the door. There we were. Me and the U. I put that smile on and he said "Hey Ms. Baker, how are we today?" And of course I'm thinking to myself, really? You want to know how I am doing today? I want to know why I am in here and damn, I wish I have worn a better shirt today... My response, "Great Mr. U." He said, "well you know Mrs. Shaw is leaving and that leaves us with an open position for January and your on the top of my list. I want you to have this job." After that sentence, things get a little fuzzy, my heart started beating through my shirt and all I could get out my mouth was, "Are you being for real right now?" Yes, I really said that. He laughed and said reassured me that I had heard right. I got an offered a special education job!!! It took everything I had to hold back tears, I stood up and shook his hand and walked out trying to catch my breath. I pretty much sprint back to C-13 and open the door and just stand there, tears running down my face staring at R still on the ladder and her face turned white when she saw my tears. Ms. J was like Scotti? I barely could get it out. Me. Job. January. I finally got it out. I got a job, teaching, in January!!!! All the hard work, tears, and prayers worked and I am starting my dream job. I had the mind set thinking 2012 was going to be a great year in my life. But really, my new year started early and 2011 ended with a bang!
